Summer II marks the peak of life within the Summer sequence of The First Flower. The flowers become more abundant and the palette opens further, but the marks remain direct, imperfect and childlike, drawn in wax crayon rather than transformed into decorative pattern.
Instead of covering the body evenly, the flowers gather into stronger blooming zones while quieter areas of the sculpture remain visible. This balance allows Summer II to carry greater colour, warmth and vitality without losing the power of the physical form.
The sun has moved from the Young King’s chest to his cheek. The shift records the progression of Summer light within the chronology: what first appeared on the body in Summer I now enters the face, while the season reaches a fuller and more vivid state.
