Autumn I records the first moment when the Young King notices that Summer is beginning to change. The flowers are still present and the colours remain warm, but some blooms are less full and less uniform than before. Pink and purple carry the first hints of the new season, while orange around the legs preserves Summer’s lingering warmth.
A single fallen petal near the foot becomes the clearest early sign of Autumn. Seen through the direct perception of a child of about eight, it is a small change in the world around him: the flowers are still beautiful, but one petal has fallen. On the back, two large, long-stemmed flowers and broad areas of ivory create a quieter rhythm. Their imperfect proportions and unvarnished wax-crayon marks preserve the immediacy of a child drawing what he sees or remembers.
The Blue Butterfly remains a familiar presence within the chronology, while the Genesis Shell Fragment continues as a quiet reminder of origin. Autumn begins through the small changes in the flowers and the fallen petal, as these recurring characters preserve continuity within The Young King Universe. Autumn I opens the season gently: Summer is still here, but Autumn has begun.
