Summer I marks the first arrival of Summer within The First Flower. The flowers remain direct, imperfect and childlike, drawn in wax crayon rather than transformed into decorative pattern. Their presence is stronger than in Spring, suggesting a world entering a period of greater warmth, growth and vitality.
At the center of the work, a single sun appears on the chest of the Young King. The sun introduces a new visual element into the seasonal chronology. It does not replace the flowers, but exists alongside them as the first sign of the light that will continue through the Summer sequence.
Summer I begins a new movement without abandoning what came before. The flower remains. The childlike mark remains. But the season has changed, and with it, the intensity of life begins to rise.
